Children’s participation: Children chose their favorites for the Future for the Children Awards

Future for the Children Association, formed a focus group of 9 children, as part of the selection of award-winning nominations for the 2015 Annual Future for Children award.

The participants were aged 10 to 16 years. Within 45 minutes, they were familiar with the idea of setting up the Prize, what it means to be a donor or a volunteer, and what it means to believe and work for a cause. The children gave examples in their community of people who help or support children and families, have helped repair their school and parents who offer treats for the whole class on various occasions. The group’s assessment was that anyone who did this and helped children deserved a prize and recognition.

They became acquainted with all 21 stories sent to the Association as nominations for the Annual Future for the Children Award. In addition to the three separate categories:

  • Public person award
  • Company charity award
  • Friend of the Child award

The children also offered to give awards to those people and organizations that have created campaigns to support children from Kazanlak – for treatment, education, significant initiatives and others.

The policy followed by the local NGO team is to support children at risk and their families by providing them with services and activities to develop their opportunities, social inclusion and welfare, and throughout this time the focus is on the CHILD.

The organization establishes an annual “Future for the Children” award, in order to stimulate volunteering and donation in support of the cause “For the children of Kazanlak!”.

By creating the title of the same name, the team of the association wants to show their respect to all people – friends of the children. Citizens, donors, companies and civic structures, volunteers who in one way or another have supported the children in the city of roses deserve recognition.

Within a month all organizations working with children – schools and kindergartens, clubs, community centers, children’s centers, etc., sent their proposals and nominations.

This can happen thanks to Change in action project, funded by the NGO Support Program in Bulgaria under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2009-2014

Changes that have occurred in the organization have radically changed its functioning. This thematic area is a key priority of the Program and it comes at a time when the organization has expanded its activities and the management team assesses the need to re-structure the organization.  Expectations after the project implementation are to establish itself in the community as a structure that helps every child and family at risk.
